New BJ’s Pizza and Brewery opens in the “Hub” followed by two new hotels Following the tremendous success of the new Sam Club in Phase I of the Hub Project Phase II is now well underway with several of the new components under construction. The New BJ’s Pizza and Brewery, a collision of food, fun and energy, celebrated it’s grand opening September 24th and 25 with capacity crowds, and generous donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Inland Empire Susan G Komen Foundation. Joining BJ’s will be a new Fairfield Inn, scheduled to begin construction in December, a new Residence Inn scheduled to begin construction in November and a new Elephant bar, Fazzoli’s, Chop Stix, Cold Stone Creamery, and Inn ,n Out Burger currently under construction. This complex is a major addition to the already bustling Hospitality Lane area along Harriman Place, which is further being enhanced by the road widening of Tippecanoe avenue at the Corner of Harriman Place to facilitate easing the traffic flow on and off the I 10 freeway.

Yet another educational facility opens in the Hospitality area

Other news from the Hospitality Lane area is the near completion of the fabulous new ITT Tech facility on the corner of Brier and Hardt Street,. ITT Tech joins the National University and the University of Phoenix in offering accredited degrees in the Hospitality area. Also taking place in this vicinity is the commencement of the new “Three Carnegie Place “ office complex and near completion of the Office tower on Van der Bilt. Construction has also commenced on the Rancon Office center at the corner of Van der Bilt and Waterman Avenue, unlike the other office buildings on the “lane” this will consist of smaller, condominium type office buildings of between five and twelve thousand foot in a garden, campus setting.

Industrial activity north and south

At the corner of Arrowhead and Orange Show road work has begun on the light industrial commercial complex, again buildings of between five thousand and twelve thousand square foot again in a garden campus atmosphere.

Another hot spot in terms of retail, industrial and residential activity is in the north of the city known as the University area. Agency projects include the near completion of the stunning new west coast headquarters of the Mapei Corporation, an Italian company which manufactures grout and adhesives who will also house their sales force in their stunning new “designer” building on Industrial Parkway and the completion of the new building for Hi-Way auto recyclers on Industrial Parkway as well. Hi- way is the first of the “New Generation” of auto recyclers and their facility is well worth a visit.

Executive housing in the Verdemont (University) area of the city

Never has the housing been in more demand in San Bernardino. Agency project include the completion of a stunning new seventy five unit senior center at the corner of 6th and “F” Street downtown, with another about to open on the corner of 4th and “G” Street downtown and a third commencing construction in the south of the city on Commercial. All of these projects were undertaken in partnership with the Telacu Corporation who are specialists in HUD housing projects. For the medium range home buyer the Agency’s Meadowbrook housing project downtown has transformed the area on Second and Sierra Avenues and home are being sold in the mid $200,000 range faster than they can be built, this is a partnership with ANR Industries. Finally the Agency has partnered with Watson to facilitate the construction of a development of Executive homes in the University Area. These fabulous homes will include open trails and parks and sell in the region of $500,000.

Agency Launches new Television Show –



The Agency, in partnership with The San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce and KCSB Channel 3 have launched a new television show, BusinessBeat. Each week the show highlights local businesses and their contribution to the local economy, educates viewers of the many programs available to local businesses through the Agency and other entities such as financing, microloans, workforce development and training, employee tax credits and features new businesses to the community. The show airs on Channel 3 each week directly after City Council on Mondays at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and Friday at 5:00 p.m..
